RESIDENT
The Rainbow Bee-Eater Merops ornatus is a colourful local bird, nesting in the wetlands and estuaries nearby Habitat North Beach. Regularly spotted by local ‘twitchers’ this gorgeous, bright bird is a flurry of activity. With cheery chittering these birds are in constant motion, soaring and tumbling in pursuit of insects such as bees, wasps and dragonflys.
This artwork draws connection between the surrounding landscape, this native and local bird and the industrious activity of Habitat’s commercial precinct - cheerful, animated, colourful, busy, hard work, communal, home.
