Railway Park
This project involved the upgrade and expansion of an important town centre public space in Byron Bay. The project expanded and enhanced community use of the space and was the first project delivered within the broader Railway Precinct. Subsequent and connected projects have included Rail Corridor Park, Byron Visitor Centre, and Byron Bay Bus Interchange (by Design Inc.).
The project was recognised with a number of industry awards.

“Railway Park demonstrates the successful collaboration of local council, designer and residents to reclaim an important public open space within the town. The design incorporates key strategic moves that ensure its functionality and activation continues long after the designer has left. The custom designed play elements integrated among the wondrous existing trees on-site, has ensured that elements of play, wonder, surprise, delight and respite are continually manifested. The park displays a commitment to social sustainability for the residents and tourists alike by engendering a respect for place.”
“The Railway Park Play Space project illustrates exemplary design thinking in response to a small site and a wide range of user requirements. The elegance of the response, in particular the incorporation and highlighting of existing trees on site, contribute to a strong sense of place and connection to the local environment.
